Memorial Service for Missing WWII Seafarers

The Chios Maritime Museum and the war memorial was the focal point for the annual memorial service organised by EVAT and the districts of Chios, in memory of missing seafarers of the Greek merchant navy. Representatives from Chian authorities and those from the island’s nautical organisations, as well as members of the public gathered around the museum’s memorial to honour those named, who lost their lives during World War II.

The museum was represented by Anna Glykas, seen here laying flowers on behalf of The Anastassis & Marouko Pateras Public Benefit Foundation.

AUGUST 2016

Musical Evening with Athenian Rhapsody and the Leon Allatios Choir

The Chios Maritime Museum provided a distinctive background to a musical evening, where many were welcomed to hear a varied repertoire from string quartet Athenian Rhapsody and the singers of the Leon Allatios Senior Choir. The four musicians, two violinists, a viola player and cellist entertained the audience with a wide-ranging and enjoyable programme of classical music, jazz pieces, tangoes, pop and rock as well as showtunes from Hollywood films. They were followed by the ladies and gentlemen of the Leon Allatios Choir, who rounded the concert off with a medley of mainly Hadjidakis and Theodorakis songs on the theme of moonlight and the moon – very appropriate for a moonlit summer night in Chios.
